Leave it to the Professionals!

Just because people may have the financial means to make modifications to their homes, doesn't mean they know how to make the best decisions. Multiple factors need to be taken into consideration and every room of the home needs to be factored into the equation. Maybe two people are living in the home now, but would one person be able to get around and function independently, if they were using a walker or a wheelchair? Does the individual or the couple have any health issues currently that may progress in the future resulting in less mobility?

Are there variable countertop heights in the kitchen to accommodate someone in a seated position versus standing? Will the bathroom shower, toilet and sink be accessible if someone needed to use an assistive device such as a walker or wheelchair to walk in the bathroom. And what about the "visitibility factor?" Can friends or family visit you in your home? Is there at least one entrance into the home that anyone of any ability could use to gain entry to the home.

We all know accidents happen which may include a broken ankle or something much more serious. But if we plan ahead, especially when we have golden opportunities like during a home remodel project of a bathroom or kitchen or when finalizing the drawings of that dream home, aging-in-place will be a much easier proposition!
